Archives & Oral History
ARCHIVES
Our Archives Collection is available on an appointment basis for people to do research on aspects of Westport’s history. We have a library of books on Westport, Fairfield County, and Connecticut history; genealogy; Victorian-era furnishings and crafts; and more. Our temperature-controlled vault contains collections of papers and documents on all areas of Westport history: maps, photographs, family histories, house histories, and much more.
Contact Katie Chase, chair of the Archives volunteers, with your archival questions, kceditserv@optonline.net, and we will arrange a time for you to come in to do research. If you are too far away from Westport for a personal visit, we will search out your information and mail it to you. There is no charge for our research, but we do charge $.25 for each page of information copied and postage.
If you have documents relating to Westport history that you would like to donate to WHS Archives, we’d be happy to hear about them. Again, contact Katie Chase to discuss what you have at 203-222-1424.
ORAL HISTORY
Our Oral History Collection has about 300 audiotaped interviews and a dozen or so videotaped interviews. All new interviews are being videotaped and stored on disks. If you would like information about any of the interviews, or have suggestions for people to be interviewed, please contact the Historical Society at 203-222-1424.
