Artist's Statement
“Most of the time I’m
a painter,” says Susan, “but every once in a while I feel like doing
something with wood collage. The ones being shown in this exhibit, have
been done over a period of time, using scraps of wood, boxes, chess and
toy pieces, wood molds or whatever I have in my hoard of ‘things’. I
begin with a box that pieces can be glued into or onto. I have no
preconceptions, as I usually do in my paintings, but I sort of fit the
parts together by trial and error. Slowly the composition builds and
the theme emerges.”
About the Artist
As an artist, Malloy is known for her paintings featuring
nature - clouds, trees and skyscapes. A well-known Westport resident
for many years, her paintings are in many private collections and she
has exhibited widely in New York and Connecticut in many group shows,
including the Alumni Show at the Tang Museum of Art at Skidmore
College. She has had nine one-woman exhibitions - the latest being a
very successful Small Works on Paper held at Earthplace in
Westport.
