Sophisticated Connecticut

Set back on a flat and spacious green, this rambling home
is a graceful expansion of the original 1860 cottage.
From the moment you enter the foyer, hand-painted by designer-owner Dan Barsanti
in stripes of taupe and silver, you sense that the interior has been updated
with the owner's personal style. Barsanti, partner in Healing Barsanti and
co-owner of HB Home, shares the imaginatively decorated home with wife Rena and
family. The living room with the original stone fireplace, is layered
with wonderful art work collected over time, from landscapes to figurative works
to a new photography collection.
The dining room is a surprise with its seventies dash. Its
beamed ceiling has been lightened to match neutral walls dappled with painted
cherry blossom branches. There is a seventies faux marble parsons table, and,
the amusing yet gorgeous touch of a mirrored fixture, which came from the
original Rainbow Room, hanging over the table.
The new kitchen is crisply tailored with navy blue
cabinets and counters crafted from a domestic Denby marble. The large island is
topped with dark-stained mahogany planks. The powder room is an example of imaginative decorating
that incorporates the original linoleum floor with new wood escutcheons mounted
on the walls and a delicate glass light fixture.
Fulfilling the owners’ vision of a fancy boutique hotel
room, the master bedroom has an understated scale and harmonious tailoring with
a lovely little fireplace and small antique furnishings that put the emphasis on
repose.
