Holiday House Tour 2004
Sunday, December
5, 11 AM to 4 PM
Turkey Hill Treat

French country is the theme carried throughout this
seamless renovation of a house built in the 1940’s. From its liberal use of
fleurs-de-lis, hand-crafted wrought iron, pressed glass fixtures, and old French
prints, Gallic charm prevails. The grand living room in the original section of
the house has a barrel ceiling and is dominated by a massive fireplace with a
limestone mantel. The charming French antiques include an iron fountain mounted
on a wall. The immense yet airy iron chandelier was designed by the owner whose
vision has been intricately entwined with every building and decorating choice.
Leaded glass doors lead to the kitchen where the French theme continues. The
large fixtures hanging over the island are made of old glass globes from the
1800’s used to ripen melon, the floors are wide-beamed oak, the backsplash is
the perfect choice of limestone subway tile.
The master bedroom is warm and Bohemian with an unusual
Oriental rug, a bedspread that carries similar rich color and pattern, and a
unique leather headboard. His and her bathrooms are appointed in neutral tones
with that country feel but all the modern luxuries including heated limestone
squares on her floor.
For all the elegance of design in the fabrics and
furniture, a sense of humor can be seen in such features as a faux twenty-dollar
bill painted on the powder room floor.
