The
Historical Society's 2002 Holiday House Tour featured five exceptional homes.
This Italianate Victorian house built in 1874
is an exciting restoration.
Brought to period perfection by former occupants, the current owners have added
a level of sophistication yet comfort to this spacious home with an eclectic
collection of artwork and antiques.
Floral Design: Susan Valois Collections
The
moody entry, painted in evening gray, tells you right away that this stone house
built in the 1940's will be full of unexpected pleasures. Every piece of
furniture and objets d'art has been lovingly collected by the Swedish
homeowners, from Tang dynasty Chinese horses to eighteenth-century Scandinavian
pieces.
Floral Design: Blossoms Plus
With a
gracious white exterior and ironwork trim, this lovely house perched amidst
spacious grounds, looks like it belongs in the French countryside. The
brilliant renovation has retained all the romance, while updating for family
comfort.
Floral Design: Carolyn Gregg Floral Design
Although this Victorian house is of the period architecturally in every detail
from the ornate moldings and ceiling medallions to the faux-painted floors, it
is actually brand new construction. The owners, a builder and designer,
have decorated the house with a love for Victorian detail but a sense of
"tongue-in-cheek" whimsy.
Floral Design: Susan Valois Collections
The
original antique house, built in 1800, formed the basis for the expansion that
the current owners undertook to create this lovely gentleman's farmhouse.
However, once you open the door, the flavors of Southern France and Tuscany,
favorite regions of the homeowners, abound.
Floral Design: Bambu Garden, Tina Hickok
